I do not separate my artistic practices as much as I let them seep into each other. Born in Hong Kong, raised in China, and now based in Los Angeles, I move restlessly among music making, photography, videography, and journalism. I find the boundaries between disciplines more interesting than the disciplines themselves, and have spent years building a system that makes those intersections possible for both me and other artists.
As the founder of Stereolism, an independent record label, and the lead editor of FASE, a multidisciplinary arts and music publication operating under the label, I have shaped a self-sustaining ecosystem for independent music. FASE brings together people who engage with sound, image, or language, connecting the audible and the visible. The publication approaches music and sound as products of human interaction rather than as isolated creations, and is particularly drawn to work that resists categorization. Stereolism operates in the same spirit, uplifting those in Los Angeles' independent music scene and beyond, from newcomers to seasoned veterans. In addition, my work has brought me into contact with the lineages I grew up studying, including Raymond Watts of PIG/KMFDM through FASE, as well as collaborations with material closely connected to J Dilla's legacy through hip-hop auteur T-Love. Beyond the studio, I - through Stereolism - have worked with United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) as a reflection of my care for the conditions under which art - such as music - is created. Under my helm, Stereolism became an early supporter and signee of the Living Wages for Musicians Act.
That editorial sensibility is inseparable from my artistic one. Whether behind the camera at a concert, in the studio producing and composing, or writing about an artist I'm interviewing, I let attention guide me as a form of care. My graphic design work and multimedia practice extend that logic further, treating visual language with the same sincerity I bring to music.
I pushed myself into the world in 2022, and I create, document, and preserve. I usually do all three simultaneously.
